The purpose of this website is to encourage students to broaden their understanding of local history. It is through studying the past that our minds are opened and enriched. Although the history of assimilation in Canada is difficult to learn, it is our duty to understand what happened in order to prevent the same mistakes from being repeated. The relationships and experiences that took place at each Residential School will not be the same from province to province or from school to school. The land of Coqualeetza is full of pain and trauma for some, and yet for others it was a joyful place. In the next chapter of Canadian history, we must choose to remember the stories of our past, good and bad, and seek to achieve forgiveness and reconciliation. Use this website as an opportunity to dive deeper into your understanding of the Canadian past. Remember that history has multiple perspectives, and it is up to you to understand every side.
